Hawson Memorial Residency
Jedburgh Scotland, 2013
The first couple of days have been spent acclimatising to my new environment, how tools work, cleaning regimes and also how to sit politely at the dinner table.
I’m here in Jedburgh within artist/designer/maker thomas Hawson’s mill containing vast amounts of machines to create furniture objects and anything you can think of from wood, metal and ceramic
The estate houses Tom and his family. Jenny his wife and two children as well as the family dog Beatie. There is also a geodesic dome and outside tub and river to go swimming in.
I’ve had an idea for a garlic necklace so I’m busy completing it at the moment. This project/piece has handily inducted me on most of the machines here.
There is a great atmosphere here and I look forward to staying and being productive with new projects.
I want to research 2 places, the river and a monument called Penielheugh.
Watch this space.
